Cocaine with a street value of £2m has been seized from a plane flown into Essex from northern France.

Two men were arrested after 30kg (4.7st) of the Class A drug was found stashed in packages underneath a seat on the aircraft.

Border Force officers tracked the plane prior to it landing at North Weald Airfield, near Epping, on Thursday.

The men, a 52-year-old from Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, and a 48-year-old from Lewisham, south London, were taken to custody.

They were due to be questioned by officers from the National Crime Agency.

A Home Office spokesman said it was "committed to disrupt the criminal networks" behind the illegal drugs trade.
