Ayesha Dharker, best known for her roles in Meera Syal's Anita And Me, Life Isn't All Ha Ha Hee Hee and Star Wars, is to join the BBC Asian Network's daily radio soap Silver Street.

Dharker plays Ambika, the wife of Suresh Dattani (played by Pal Aron – Casualty and The Bill).

The Dattani family are Silver Street's lynchpin family, but they have had their fair share of problems. When golden boy Suresh returns to the street after many years his mother hopes he can restore family harmony.

However, when Suresh's mother takes a shine to their luxurious pad, Ambika is disturbed by what this could mean for her future as she and Suresh's mother do not get on.

You can hear Ayesha in Silver Street between 4 and 13 February 2008.
