Quiz: Could you make it as a Victorian parent?

Children don’t arrive in our lives with an instruction manual but that hasn’t stopped people writing them.

In the Victorian era, self-help books reflected the values and discipline of the time - even when addressing child care.

Using Cassell’s Household Guide to the Rearing and Management of Children (a volume dating back to the 1880s) as our guide, BBC Bitesize Parents’ Toolkit invites you to guess which advice the 19th century experts suggest for a series of scenarios and see if you could ‘make it’ as a Victorian carer.

We’ve also asked clinical psychologist Linda Blair to give her perspective on the tips offered – would they stand up with today’s families?
