Fin and Snoot use different coin and note combinations to buy a toy from Earth.
NARRATOR: Hello Snoot, hello Finn.
ALIENS: (Alien language.)
NARRATOR: I see you’re at the intergalactic market, what are you buying?
ALIENS: (Alien language.)
NARRATOR: Ah yes, on Earth that’s called a space hopper. But how much is it?
ALIEN: Alien language.
Narrator: £7.75p, what a bargain!
Better change some credits into Earth money.
What did you get?
ALIEN: Er…
NARRATOR: Let’s see… you’ve got one five pound note, three, one pound coins and four, 50p pieces.
£5 plus £3 makes £8, plus one 50p, makes £8.50. Plus another 50p makes £9, plus 50p, makes £9.50. Plus one more 50p, makes £10 altogether.
ALIENS: Ah ha!
NARRATOR: What money are you going to use to buy the space hopper?
ALIEN: (Alien language.)
NARRATOR: Good plan Snoot. A five pound note, plus three one pound coins, makes eight pounds altogether.
The space hopper cost £7.75p. £8.00 take away £7, leaves £1.
And £1 take away 75p, leaves 25p change.
ALIEN: (Alien language.)
NARRATOR: Ok Finn, if you want to do it another way…
You prefer to take the five pound note. Add two, one pound coins, to make £7. Add one, 50p, to make £7.50, and another 50p to make £8 altogether.
£8 take away £7.75 for the space hopper, leaves you with 25p change again.
ALIEN: (Alien language.)
NARRATOR: I know Snoot, it’s the same as what you had. That’s how it works with money.
You can use different combinations to make up the same price.
Five pounds plus three one pound coins, makes eight pounds.
And five pounds, plus two one pound coins, and two 50 pence pieces, makes eight pounds as well.
ALIENS: Ah ha!
NARRATOR: Now, where did that space hopper get to?
ALIEN: Hello.
NARRATOR: Oh I see Plimble likes to bounce.
CRASH!
ALIEN: Ahh!
