What are brackets?
Brackets can be used to add additional information to a sentence.
Here is a sentence:
Albert the alien was in charge of the wrecking ball.
You can use brackets to add more information to this sentence:
Albert the alien (who had no training) was in charge of the wrecking ball.
The sentence has too still make sense without the words inside the brackets.

Watch: How to use brackets
These are brackets.
Brackets are one of the tools that we use to add additional information to existing sentences.
The phrase in the brackets is a form of parenthesis.
The original sentence makes sense without the added bit of information, but it just gives it a little extra flavour.
Albert the alien (who had no training) was in charge of the wrecking ball.
Oh dear.
