Everyone can dance! Watch this video taken from YolanDa's Band Jam to see how people can dance even if they can't hear the music.
Narrator: Meet Toma, Priya and Kian. These friends love music and dancing. They can't hear as much as most people, so they sign to talk.
Priya: I like Indian dancing.
Narrator: Well, let’s do some dancing right now.
Narrator: Today, our bopping, popping groovers are meeting superstar dancer, Chris. Chris is also deaf and signs, too.
Chris: I started dancing back when I was twelve and I love dancing. Dancing makes me happy. And why do you like dancing?
Kian: It makes me proud when I dance.
Toma: I like the feel of the vibrations.
Chris: Does it make you happy?
Priya: Yeah, the dancing.
Chris: To dance we need music, right?
Priya: Yeah.
Chris: But we can't hear music because we're deaf. But what is important for us is to feel the music. Do you wanna have a go? Come with me.
Narrator: When music comes out of a speaker, it wobbles the air. These are called vibrations. Can you feel the vibrations?
Chris: Let's feel the beat.
Narrator: Chris is letting them touch the speaker to feel the vibrations. Why don't you ask a grown up if you can try. The vibrations mean they can feel the beat of the music, which helps because they can't hear it.
Chris: Feel that. Feel it in your chest. Shall we do some dancing?
Narrator: Chris is teaching some cool moves to Kian, Priya and Toma. And they're feeling the beat as they practise. Feeling the beat is the start of all dance routines.
Chris: Three, four, five, six, seven, eight. High fives, high fives, yeah. Well done all of you.
Narrator: It’s time to feel the beat and check out their moves. Brilliant dancing Kian. Looking good Priya. Good work Toma. Can you feel the beat? Spectacular. As long as you can feel music, you can dance.
