Makeda can’t find her money and needs to ask Marie and Rapper is they’ve seen it anywhere – could it be that she’s spent it already?
Marie: Was hast du da?
Makeda: Ehh nothing. I'm just looking for my money. Ich habe, du hast, er hat. Okay, so I've got to match the person doing the action with the ending of the verb. The action word. Hast du mein Geld?
Rapper: Habe ich dein Geld? Nein. Sie hat dein Geld ganz bestimmt, definitely. Hey Marie! Hast du Makedas Geld?
Marie: Nein, Ich habe Makedas Geld nicht.
Makeda: Du hast mein Geld nicht?
Rapper: She already said it, cuz, sie hat dein Geld nicht.
Makeda: Ich habe es nicht, du hast es nicht, sie hat es nicht. Err… Rapper! I've lost it!
Rapper: Argh, she's lost it!
Makeda: I've lost my money, doofus.
Marie: Ich verstehe nicht.
Rapper: Um, she's saying…
Makeda: Rapper! I've got this one. Ich verliere mein Geld.
Rapper: Um well, if you want to say something that happened in the past you to need to 'p-p-past-ify.'
Makeda: Past-ify?
Rapper: Uh yeah, you know like put it in the past tense. Otherwise, it will just sound like you're saying 'I lose my wallet', right now, or all the time, you know?
Makeda: So how do I say 'I had my money this morning?'
Rapper: Well, it's all in the verb, in the 'had' part.
Makeda: So 'Ich habe?'
Rapper: Right. But that's 'I have'. Now let's use a different word ending to past-ify that verb. It's not 'I have,' but 'I had'. Ich hatte.
Makeda: So kind of like in English, except we use '-ed', or just '-d', and you use '-te'. So like, 'I played', that would be 'ich spielte'.
Marie: And for 'kochen'?
Makeda: To cook? 'Kochen' would be… 'kochte'.
Marie: Hey, I think she gets it!
Makeda: Oh yeah! So as I was saying. Ich hatte mein Geld heute Morgen noch.
Marie: Du hattest es heute Morgen noch?
Makeda: Hey! You changed the past-ification! You said du hattest.
Marie: Yes, ich hatte, du hattest.
Makeda: Okay… So you've got to match the person with their action in the past too?
Rapper: Aber klar, Makeda.
Makeda: Okay, let's do this. Gimme a word to use and I'll past-ify that sentence!
Rapper: Ermmm. Goldfisch.
Makeda: Ich habe jetzt einen Goldfisch. Ich hatte gestern einen Goldfisch.
Rapper: Ermmm, Hund.
Makeda: Du hast einen Hund. Du hattest einen Hund. Ich hatte, du hattest. Mhm!
Marie: Mann, Makeda. Waaahnsinn!
Makeda: Ich hatte, I had. Ich habe, I have. Oh Mann… Ich habe mein Geld immer noch nicht.
Marie: Gestern hatte ich Geld.
Makeda: Gestern hatte ich Essen. Ich habe eine Idee!
Marie: Und zwar?
Makeda: Ich brauche einen Job.
Marie: Oh!
Makeda: How do I future-ify? Oh yeah, with 'werden'. Ich werde, du wirst.
Rapper: Yeah, um, 'werden' is like 'will' in English. 'Werden' plus -
Makeda: 'Werden' plus a verb. Ich werde einen Job haben! Dann werde ich Geld, Essen und Spaß haben. I'll have money, food and fun!
Marie: Genau! Du wirst Spaß haben.
Rapper: Und ich komme mit!
Makeda: Ich werde hier arbeiten. Und er auch.
Herr Özgur: Du wirst hier arbeiten? Hmm. Ok. Ich gebe euch einen Job.
Rapper: Ja!
Makeda: Juhu! Super!
