What is a quarter?
Finding a quarter means finding one of four equal parts.
There are four quarters in one whole.
Layla, Bobbi, Isla and George want to share a pizza. How could they slice the pizza so they each get an equal piece?

There are four children so they need to cut it into four pieces.
If they cut the pizza like this, they will each get an equal piece, or a quarter.

Example
Charlie has a box of doughnuts. There are 8 doughnuts in a box.

Charlie wants to find a quarter of the doughnuts. He says that you can find a quarter, if you find a half and then halve it again?
Is Charlie correct?
✓ Charlie is correct. To find \( \frac{1}{4} \), you can halve a number and then halve it again.

This bar model shows that half of 8 is 4. Then half of 4 is 2.
So you can say that:
\( \frac{1}{4} \) of 8 is 2
