
Many people do not follow a religion or believe in a god but believe that they can live a good life. These people are non-religious.
Humanists don't follow the teachings of religious books or visit a place of worship but they like to meet up, celebrate their differences and discuss their ideas together.

Niamh: Hi, I’m Niamh. My parents and I don’t have a religion, but they call themselves humanists.
Humanists don’t believe in a god, so they don’t follow the teachings of a holy book. They believe that science and history can help to explain the world.
It also means that my family don’t have a place of worship.
But we still think community is really important and we try to live good lives.
We like to meet at places where people can learn new things or live healthy lives.
Everyone is welcome.
My family are members of the museum, and we also see our neighbours in the nearby park.
Humanists and many non-religious people try to be kind and help others whenever we can.
Because we believe that everyone should be treated fairly and have a good life.
For example, my family and I help to look after the environment.
Many people believe this is important because all humans and animals depend on our planet to provide the things we need for a healthy and happy life.
Humanists and non-religious people believe we have a responsibility to make the world a better place for everyone… and we also celebrate the things humans have done to make it so special already!

What non-religious people believe
- There are many people who believe that you can live a good life without following a religion.
- Some of these people call themselves A non-religious person who holds the beliefs and values of humanism..
- Humanism is a non-religious worldview.
- Many non-religious people do not believe in gods or an afterlife.
- They use Science helps us understand the world, test ideas and predict outcomes.to try to understand the world around them.
- Being kind and thoughtful is very important to many non-religious people and humanists, just as it is for many religious people too.


How non-religious people show care
Some non-religious people and humanists think that that we should focus on living life well.
They find ways to live happy lives and try to look after the world for everyone. Some ways they do this is by tidying litter in the community, volunteering or helping people in need.
Some non-religious people follow the Golden Rule - treat others as you would like to be treated.
