What are odd and even numbers?

An even number is a number that can be shared equally into two groups.

For example, these 4 cubes can be shared into two equal groups of 2 cubes.

So 4 is an even number.

An odd number cannot be shared equally into two groups.

For example, these 3 cubes cannot be shared into two equal groups. You have a group of 2 cubes and a group with 1 cube.

So 3 is an odd number.

There are lots of ways to describe numbers.

One of the ways to describe a number is whether it is an odd number or an even number.
