What is VE Day?
VE Day stands for Victory in Europe Day. It was a celebration because it marked the end of a nearly six year war that claimed the lives of millions of people. The Second World War has been the biggest war in human history and caused devastation to lots of countries. On VE Day in 1945, people rejoiced in the streets with street parties, music, dancing and celebrations. This did not mark the official end of the Second World War though, as Japan was still in conflict until August 1945.
When is VE Day?
The original VE Day was 8th May 1945. It's been recognised every year since.
