Three sheep and seven lambs have drowned after they were chased by a dog, police said.

A dog was off its lead in a field with livestock near the Lyth Valley Hotel near Kendal, Cumbria, on Sunday afternoon.

The sheep and lambs drowned in the river while trying to escape, Cumbria Police said.

The force said it was investigating the case of sheep-worrying, and has asked anyone with information to get in touch.
