Road closures as work begins at city roundabout

Peter Lane will be closed for about four months

Work to create a larger roundabout in a city has begun.
Construction at Newby West roundabout in Carlisle is expected to last until the end of August, with a number of road closures in place.
Cumberland Council said the new structure would be "significantly larger", with work including changing the height of the new roundabout so it drained effectively.
Peter Lane is closed at the Newby West roundabout end and the A595 North from Newby West Roundabout into Carlisle will close on 28 April.
There will be no through route for either, but Peter Lane residents will still have access via Dalston Road.
What are the diversions?
All traffic from the A595 South and West Cumbria will be directed onto the A689 via the newly built southwest quadrant of the new Newby West Roundabout
All traffic from Carlisle on the A595 heading out of the city will be diverted towards the A689 and then onto the A595 via the southwest quadrant of the new Newby West roundabout
HGVs will be rerouted north to M6 Junction 44 and into Carlisle via A7 Scotland Road
Non-HGVs will have access through Newtown Road, Orton Road, and Burgh Road
