Upcycled bathtubs bring colour to city park

Seven bathtubs have been upcycled and used as planters in a city centre park.

The Friends of Central Park and the Peterborough Civic Society groups teamed up to arrange the project in the city.

Local people donated their unwanted baths, as part of the Up the Garden Bath initiative, which was started by local resident Dave Poulton five years ago.

“It’s a really exciting project for us," said Mr Poulton.

“We had seven companies helping us deliver the baths to the park - it’s a real collaborative project between charities, organisations and community groups joining hands to change Peterborough for the better.”

Last year, Mr Poulton started Unity, selling products from more than 50 small businesses at a unit in the Queensgate shopping centre.

Revenue from that scheme has been used to fund the Central Park project.

The bathtubs have been cladded in wood to fit with the "Victorian theme of the park", Mr Poulton said.

Tony Foster, from Friends of Central Park, said the group was “delighted” with the results.

Various refurbishment projects are under way at the site, including new toilets, a revamp to the public tennis courts and new basketball courts.
