Fire crews and bomb disposal experts dealing with unexploded grenade

Bomb disposal experts have been contacted after an unexploded grenade was found following a fire.

According to Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service, the grenade was discovered in a conservatory fire at a residential property in Towcester on Monday afternoon.

An explosive ordnance disposal team would carry out a controlled explosion, the fire service said.

"We understand the concern that this incident may cause, however we would like to reassure residents that there is no risk to the wider public," it said on social media, external.

People have been advised to remain in their homes "for the time being" while the incident is dealt with.
