Wrexham may have been linked with former England striker and Leicester City legend Jamie Vardy, but manager Phil Parkinson says the north Wales club will not speak to possible new signings before the end of the season in case it "destabilises" the dressing room.

Former Premier League and FA Cup winner Vardy has been tipped for a potential move to Wrexham since the club secured promotion to the Championship last Saturday.

The 38-year-old is leaving Leicester after 13 years, with the Foxes relegated from the Premier League, and some pundits - including former Premier League boss Harry Redknapp - are tipping him to join Wrexham to help them challenge for top-flight football.

But Parkinson, speaking to BBC 5 Live Breakfast, swerved the Vardy question when asked whether he would be interested in signing the departing Foxes legend.

"We haven't spoken about anything in terms of recruitment," Parkinson said.

"Agents obviously ring all the time, and I've been saying, 'Look, we're not looking at recruitment until the end of the season'... because when you start speaking to players at this stage you can destabilise your own dressing room."

Redknapp has also suggested newly-promoted Burnley might be a good fit for Vardy, while it has been reported the player himself does not want to drop down into the Championship.

But Wrexham's track record of signing former top-flight stars such as Steven Fletcher, James McClean and Jay Rodriguez - backed by the appeal and the money of their Hollywood film star owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney - means Parkinson will not rule out moving for more big names like Vardy.

"We've put everything on hold for the moment," Parkinson said.

"We'll get the last game of the season out of the way (at Lincoln on 3 May), then we can have a good sit down next week."

Parkinson said after Saturday's promotion-clinching win over Charlton Athletic that Wrexham will have a "huge" challenge in the Championship next season, but he has promised fans they will do their best to "build a squad that can be competitive".

"We've got a lot of work to do this summer because we know we're going into a huge division in terms of the stature of the clubs in it," Parkinson said.

"We'll take a week or two to take stock of everything, have a good look at the market out there and what we need to do."

Parkinson was also asked to rate out of 10 Wrexham's chances of reaching the top level and completing the journey from National League to Premier League next season.

"I'll answer that question come August, at the end of the summer transfer window, and see what the squad looks like," he said.
