Male, brown hair, blue and white striped top: Feet and inches.
Male, black hair and goatee, blue and white striped top: Pounds and ounces.
Male, grey curly hair, checked top: Centimetres, millimetres.
Male, brown hair, blue and white striped top: Milk comes in pints.
Male, bald head, green t-shirt: Litres of petrol, litres of oil.
Female hairdresser, blonde hair, blue dress: Most hairdressers don't realise they do this, but they have to work in inches and centimetres.
So must hairdressers naturally will know if it's 2½ centimetres, which is an inch.
And they automatically swap between the two, because clients will speak in inches and in centimetres.
Female hairdresser, blonde hair, black shirt: I learnt a little trick that if you crease your thumb, this is roughly an inch.
So I always go like this, so that's roughly an inch.
Male hairdresser, black hair, glasses, black shirt: This is roughly an inch, and I'd say that is roughly a centimetre.
Female nurse, black hair, blue and white striped shirt: There are easy conversions, I mean 3 ft is approximately a metre.
A litre of water is 1¾ pt.
Male gym worker, black hair, purple and black t-shirt: All our weights in this gym are in kilos.
Being a hotel we often have a lot of American guests staying and they work in pounds there, so they often like to know a conversion.
As a rule of thumb we know 2.2 lbs is the same as a kilogram.
So for example, a 10 kg dumbbell would be 22 lbs.
Imperial units such as feet, pints, ounces and miles are used alongside metric units like metres, millilitres and kilometres. In the UK we use metric for money (pence) and imperial for large distances (miles).
