This game is a great opportunity for children to use their imagination while getting active and having fun.
You can play the iceberg game with a group of children or one-on-one with your child.
We took the inspiration for this activity from the Rangers Soccer Academy, thanks to our partnership with the RangersCharity Foundation.
Watch the video below to see how this game can help both your child's language and physical development.
Who's the fastest penguin? Good.
Don't hit any cones! Good!
Can you see all of my cones over there? Yes! They are my icebergs. I'm going to give you one minute, okay, to dribble about as fast as you can and try and dodge all of the icebergs.
Three, two, one… Go penguins, go! Remember, don't try hit them! That's fine, just go with your ball. Keep going with the ball.
I think you can go faster, what do you think? Hands up who thinks they'll be the fast penguin today.
Alright, are you ready? Three, two, one…Go! Don't try hit them, remember? Good, good.
Well done. Well done, well done.
Good, I want to hear the loudest penguin today! Good, good.
Who's the loudest, fastest penguin? Good, good. Remember, I want to see how fast you can be.
Twenty more seconds. And… finish!
Don't move…Can we go back onto the line for me, boys and girls? Stand in a line, foot on top like a cool dude.
Now, how did you find that? Easy!
How many icebergs did you hit, pal? Um… Zero.Zero? High five, good job! Boom.
How many did you hit, my friend? Zero. Zero? Wow, you are amazing at this.
Do you think you could do this in the garden at home? Yeah. Right.
On you go guys, well done!
Don't worry if you've not got any cones in the house, you can use items of clothing, such as socks, T-shirts, toys in the house and twigs.
And you're just trying to dribble in and out of the icebergs without touching any of them, go from one side to the other.
If they touch any of the icebergs they need to freeze, go back to the start and start again. Were you pretending to be an animal?
What animal were you pretending to be? Penguin.Penguin? On the ice…
And how did you avoid the icebergs? Or did you hit them? I hit zero. You hit zero? You are amazing.
How to play the iceberg game at home
Don't worry if you've not got any cones in the house, your child can still have a go at this fun activity.
You can use items of clothing, toys or even twigs. Set a few up around the floor as your icebergs.
Your child must dribble in and out of the icebergs without touching any of them. If they touch any of the icebergs, they need to freeze.
Get creative with the rules. Changing them up and giving your child new instructions will challenge their listening skills.
This game can really activate your child's imagination, as they can pretend to be a penguin running around on the ice.
Encourage your child to try out different characters if they want. Perhaps they could be a dinosaur avoiding the volcanoes or a tiger avoiding the trees in the jungle.
Your child might struggle with this game at first, but keep encouraging them and helping them through it.
Practice will build their confidence and build their patience and resilience.
