A cardboard box is like a treasure chest to your baby.
Play with a shoe box, egg box or cereal box and hide toys or a favourite teddy for your baby to discover!
Show your baby what's inside the box. Name what's in there too! Cover the box up, and reveal again.
This teaches your baby that objects are still there even when you can't see them.
Let your baby do the same.
Opening and closing the box will help develop hand-eye coordination.
Keep talking as you play. Say "in" and "out" as you repeat the actions.
One…
Your baby will connect words with the actions they're seeing. And have fun together!
The Baby Club’s Nigel Clarke encourages parents and carers to explore cardboard boxes with babies.
Nigel explains why playing with boxes can be great fun and help your baby’s language development.
