Chelsea Flower Show Privacy Notice
Chelsea Flower Show is produced by BBC Studios for broadcast, use and exploitation by the BBC. We are responsible for handling personal information you provide, including your contribution, in accordance with data protection law.
What information we collect and how we use it?
When you submit user generated content (UGC), BBC Studios will collect and process your name, contact number, home address, email address as well as any information you share with us via your photos and/or videos. We will use this information to contact you if we are interested in finding out more about your garden and horticultural interests before any footage is broadcast.
BBC Studios relies on its legitimate interests as a media organisation to process your personal information. We will not process your personal information where your rights override our interests.
Background checks
If we decide to shortlist your UGC and/or feature it in the programme, we may carry out reasonable background research about you. This may include searches of publicly available records such as: criminal convictions and court proceedings; participation in previous television productions: information from social media profiles, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn. Where appropriate, we will contact you to obtain your consent before we carry out these checks.
Such personal data will generally be restricted to relevant members of the programme’s production team and crew, as well as the programme’s third-party experts (where relevant).
Filming at the event
Our teams cover the live event of RHS Chelsea Flower Show. When we film at these events we will wherever possible display signage so that it’s clear when we are filming. If you have any concerns please speak to a member of crew. Anyone interviewed on camera will be asked to sign a contributor release form.
Retaining your personal information
We will securely store the information you submit for up to 3 months after submission. We do this in case we wish to contact you about your video footage and horticultural interests for the next series. If we feature your video footage on Chelsea Flower Show then your information will be further retained for that purpose.
Sharing your information
Your personal information will generally be restricted to relevant members of the Chelsea Flower Show production team and crew, as well as the programme’s third party presenters (where relevant). Where necessary, we may also share information with other BBC Studios staff and the BBC, with our professional advisors, and from time to time with other programmes that may have an interest in your contribution.
