  2. Lewis Hamilton has dropped to 13th place but he saves his skin at the last moment and goes sixth fastest. Carlos Sainz, meanwhile, locks up at Turn 11 and has to bail out of his lap.

    I think Albon is talking about the delta time you have to stick to on the lap - you can only go so slow.

  4. Lando Norris is quickest and Max Verstappen is second, but Lewis Hamilton is in real trouble. The seven-time world champion is in the drop zone in 11th place now.

  5. Pierre Gasly bangs against the wall on his final attempt to get out of SQ2. The Alpine driver manages to cross the line and go eighth fastest but he could fall into danger.

  6. "I don't think the Merc is legal," says detective inspector Alex Albon over the Williams team radio. What has he spotted? Maybe we'll find out after sprint qualifying...

  9. George Russell is fifth but the Mercedes man says he is unimpressed with this set of medium tyres.

    McLaren are one-two currently, Max Verstappen is the meat in a Silver Arrows sandwich and Charles Leclerc is in sixth spot.

    After struggling in the past three races, to be on Charles Leclerc's pace in that first session is something Lewis Hamilton can build on for sure.

  11. Pierre Gasly made it through to SQ2 but was sent out first, ahead of Jack Doohan. The Frenchman then had a bit of difficulty manoeuvring his car out of the pit lane, causing a further delay for Doohan.

    Oscar Piastri is leading SQ2, Lando Norris is second and Kimi Antonelli is third with just over four minutes to go.

    It's not great and Tsunoda has every right to be angry with the team there.

  13. Go! Go! Go!

    Well, a few drivers are unhappy after that session.

    SQ2 is green. Medium tyres again.

  14. Doohan not happy

    Jack Doohan is furious on the team radio with how Alpine have handled SQ1, questioning what happened with his team-mate Pierre Gasly's release. "That is not acceptable," says the Australian. "Yeah, sorry," says his engineer sheepishly.

  16. George Russell goes quickest in the Mercedes as Alex Albon moves to third on the timesheets. Kimi Antonelli splits the two drivers in second.

  17. Tsunoda and Bearman out

    Yuki Tsunoda and Oliver Bearman have failed to get out in time and the pair are eliminated from AQ1.

  18. Final runs incoming and the traffic is starting to bite on track. Lance Stroll begins his lap but the Aston Martin kicks out and sends the Canadian into a small slide. Stroll completes his attempt but can't move higher than 15th.

  20. The walls are enticing drivers to give them a kiss in Miami. Charles Leclerc has taken up the offer, so has Gabriel Bortoleto, who tells his Sauber pit wall to check the right hand side of his car after a brush at the exit of Turn 16.
