Watch: How to make your own landscape painting
Joey Yu: Landscape painting is a type of art that often shows a scene from nature.
Landscape paintings have been popular for many years.
They might show the countryside, mountains, animals in a field, anything at all in the great outdoors. Let's paint a landscape ofour own!
You will need a sketchbook, a pencil, paintbrushes and paints.
To start, it helps to divide the picture in three horizontally. I'll sketch this out with my pencil.
The foreground is at the bottom. The midground is in the centre. And the background is at the top.
I'm drawing hills in this middle area. I'll add some trees growing on the hills. The trees are far away, so we drawthem small. This is called perspective.
I'm going to add a river to the foreground. It can get wider as it comes closer to us.
Now to add colour and texture using my paints. Things that are nearer can appear darker, so I'll use these darker shades here.
And much lighter shades in the background.
What do you think? Have a go for yourself, be inspired by nature, or why not create an imaginary landscape of your own?
