What is a crêpe?

Crêpes are a traditional food in France, Belgium, Switzerland and Canada where you can buy them in restaurants or stalls. How do you make them?

You will need:

- 200ml whole milk (Sorry, something went wrongCheck your connection, refresh the page and try again.)

- 25g butter (Sorry, something went wrongCheck your connection, refresh the page and try again.)
- toppings of choice - these could include:
- cheese (Sorry, something went wrongCheck your connection, refresh the page and try again.)
- mushrooms (Sorry, something went wrongCheck your connection, refresh the page and try again.)
- ham (Sorry, something went wrongCheck your connection, refresh the page and try again.)
- lemon juice (Sorry, something went wrongCheck your connection, refresh the page and try again.)

Important note
This recipe uses a hot frying pan so make sure you ask an adult to help you.
Method
Mix (Sorry, something went wrongCheck your connection, refresh the page and try again.) the flour and salt in a bowl (Sorry, something went wrongCheck your connection, refresh the page and try again.).
Make (Sorry, something went wrongCheck your connection, refresh the page and try again.) a hole in the middle of this and break the two eggs into it.
Add a quarter (Sorry, something went wrongCheck your connection, refresh the page and try again.) of the milk and whisk (Sorry, something went wrongCheck your connection, refresh the page and try again.) this together to make a thick batter (Sorry, something went wrongCheck your connection, refresh the page and try again.).
Gradually pour (Sorry, something went wrongCheck your connection, refresh the page and try again.) in the rest of the milk until the batter becomes thin.
Get an adult to melt (Sorry, something went wrongCheck your connection, refresh the page and try again.) the butter in a pan (Sorry, something went wrongCheck your connection, refresh the page and try again.) and add this to your mixture.
Get an adult to add some batter to the frying pan, tilt it to cover the surface, and cook (Sorry, something went wrongCheck your connection, refresh the page and try again.) until it’s golden brown.
Flip (Sorry, something went wrongCheck your connection, refresh the page and try again.) the crêpe to cook the other side.
For savoury crêpes, try ham, cheese or mushrooms and for sweet crêpes, try lemon juice and sugar or fruit.
