Exploring the Festival of Sant Antoni with Lola
Hello, I'm Lola and welcome to the traditional Spanish festival of Sant Antoni.
The festival of Sant Antoni is a big celebration all over Spain including here in Barcelona.
So, let's go to the festival - vamos al festival.
Spain has a strong Catholic history and Sant Antoni is an important figure to Catholics.
They believe he's the patron saint of animals, because of this, many Catholics queue up to have their pets blessed by a local priest.
Even if you're not a Catholic, you can still enjoy the many traditions the festival has to offer.
One of the funniest things about this festival are the giants - gigantes and cabezudos.
There is someone inside who makes them move, it's super funny, they go all around the streets chasing children and making people laugh.
After all this craziness, I'm hungry.
Spanish people love food and especially our typical and favourite dish; paella that I am sure you will know - paella de marisco.
All over the streets of Barcelona you see people cooking paellas in big frying pans a lot of people buy it during the festival.
I love paella because it is so delicious - Me gusta la paella porque es deliciosa.
I've been going to the neighbourhood festivals like this since I was very small and I love all the Spanish traditions.
One of my favourite festivals are especially celebrated in Catalunya and Valencia, and it is the fire run - correfoc.
At the correfoc, there is a lot of music, loud noises and a lot of fireworks.
It is fun but it can be dangerous too.
I remember when I was small, I was very scared of them.
Spanish celebrations like this go on for days and days, and this festival has been going on for more than a week already.
So now I am going home to get some rest so goodnight - ¡Buenas noches!
The festival of Sant Antoni is a huge celebration involving food, street dancing and fireworks in honour of Sant Antoni, the patron saint of animals.
During the festival many people travel to have their pets blessed by a priest.
Food at the festival
Like many other Spanish festivals, there is plenty of food to eat.
Stalls sell traditional Spanish food such as fish, meat and cheese and not forgetting paella, which is made from rice, chicken and seafood.
Did you know?
Each region in Spain has its’ own version of paella and you may find that the ingredients change slightly depending on where in Spain you visit.

They mimic Spanish characters and are usually hand-painted.
The cabazudos and gigantes have been used since the 13th Century and have a rich history.

This usually involves lots of drumming and dancing and helps to create an exciting atmosphere.
