It's not often Gerwyn Price has the fans behind him these days but that was certainly the case in Liverpool tonight - and it worked for him.

The Welshman was excellent all night as he secured his third nightly win.

Some bold words from Gerwyn Price in his post-match press conference after winning in Liverpool: "When I'm on my game I am the best in the world. I'm just a little inconsistent.

"If I keep pushing forward, there's no reason why I can't win the Premier League this season."

More from Gerwyn Price talking to Sky Sports: "I'm not going to speak about last week in Rotterdam but the conditions were good tonight, it was a fair game and I played some good darts. Sometimes I do throw my toys out of the pram when things don't go my way but I had a reason last week. We don't deserve to play in those conditions. We play in Rotterdam every year but surely they can find a venue where it is fair for everyone. People say 'it is the same for every player' but it definitely isn't. Some people throw heavier darts, have longer stems, thicker flights - it's not the same for everyone.

"I just want to make the top four - it doesn't matter if it is one, two, three or four - being at the O2 is my priority. Today was just about getting two points, I managed to get five so it eases a little bit of pressure next week. I am playing really well though so there is no reason I can't win next week as well.

"Every week is vital points. It was vital I got some points tonight. It eases the pressure for next week and when there's no pressure on me I play some good darts."

Gerwyn Price talking to Sky Sports: "I was under pressure to win my first game and get some vital points on the board. I thought I played well in that first game but that allowed me to settle down and enjoyed myself a little bit. I thought I was unlucky to be behind against Luke Humphries, I thought I was playing better than him but it was a cracking game.

"I knew I was throwing well so I just said 'keep playing as I am and I know the chances will come'. Don't get me wrong, the crowd were behind me a little bit today and put Luke off but I've had that against me plenty of times. I'm happy with that."

The best player has definitely won tonight.

He's bounced back brilliantly from being bitterly disappointed last week in Rotterdam.

He's looking pretty good for the play-offs.

Impressive stats for both players but it's Gerwyn Price who had the edge - and that showed in the final outcome.

The Ice Man averaged in 104.43 to Luke Humphries' 102.64 and came out on top on the 180s as well, three to two.

Neither player was as clinical as they'd like on the doubles - despite each hitting 150-plus checkouts - but Price again topped it, 35.3% to 30.8%.

Both players averaged over 100 but Price just outdid world number one Luke Humphries.

That is the worst leg of the match but it could be the most important.

Goodness me, nobody wants to win this leg!

First Gerwyn Price and then Luke Humphries miss numerous darts at double.

Eventually, Hupmhries hits double 10 to edge back in front.

Gerwyn Price misses six darts at double before finally hitting double five.

It is a good job he was so far ahead of Luke Humphries in that leg.

Cool Hand did get one dart for the leg in the end but he missed tops and Price was able to mop up.
