  2. Key FPL tips before Gameweek 34published at 16:31 British Summer Time 25 April

With that, we have come to the end of the Q&A with our FPL expert Pras.

If you have missed it, here's some of the topics that we discussed over the past hour and a half.

Pras’s Free Hit team for 34

    Players missing out this week

    The big injury doubts

The best Newcastle and Wolves triple-ups?

Pick Alexander-Arnold on a Free Hit?

Is a Liverpool triple-up mandatory on a Free Hit?

Salah or Isak as captain choice?

The argument for Cunha as captain

  3. 'Fulham's Sessegnon an interesting differential'published at 16:29 British Summer Time 25 April

    FPL Q&A

    Pras
FPL veteran with eight top-25k finishes and co-host of The FPL Wire podcast

Who is a cheap, differential defender if you are on a Free Hit?

Pras: Fulham's Ryan Sessegnon is an interesting one. Has huge appeal given he is playing out of position (i.e. he is playing right wing, but listed as a defender in FPL), but his competitor for the spot Harry Wilson is back from injury and played some minutes in GW33.

Could Wilson take away minutes from him again. A sub 60-minute substitution would mean no clean sheet points or worse Wilson could even start this. Having said this, I am inclined to chance it with Sessegnon given the fixture.

Here's my team of the week for gameweek 34.

I've gone a slightly differential, with Wolves striker Matheus Cunha as captain.

And four attacking full-backs. If you are Free Hitting this week then you have to shoot for the stars and go for upside picks.

Each defender here has the potential for double digits. Imagine if all four hauled at once!

Our listeners’ team is managed by a different listener every week who comes on the podcast to make all the decisions – team selection, captaincy, chip strategy.

If you want to put your hand up for that then please send us an e-mail on [email protected]

The listeners have now got a little bit of catching up to do as they’re 46 points behind Statman Dave but they do still have the Bench Boost chip in their collective back pocket.

Their manager this week, David Richardson, is going with the Free Hit and he’s included Anthony Elanga and Bryan Mbeumo for the Nottingham Forest vs Brentford game next Thursday.

Bournemouth’s Justin Kluivert also features in the midfield for their home game against Manchester United and he’s got both Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk in the squad. He won’t start the pair of them though, he’s waiting to hear what Arne Slot has to say about the chances of Alexander-Arnold starting the game which will get him the nod if it’s positive news.

He’s gone for Robert Sanchez in goal because he’s just got a feeling that both Southampton and Leicester could score this weekend.

The captain will be Alexander Isak.

  6. 'Rank Wissa, Wood and Cunha'published at 16:26 British Summer Time 25 April

    FPL Q&A

Chris Wood of Nottingham Forest reactsImage source, Getty Images

FPL Fella: How would you rank these three forwards going into the run in? Yoane Wissa, Matheus Cunha, Chris Wood.

Pras: For the entire run-in, I'd go Wissa, Wood and then Cunha.

  7. 'I wouldn't try to get clever with captaincy this week'published at 16:25 British Summer Time 25 April

    FPL Q&A

    Pras
FPL veteran with eight top-25k finishes and co-host of The FPL Wire podcast

Sam, Oxford: Pras - we’ve got about 20 points between us in our mini league. I’m assuming we’ll all be using free hit, with basically the same teams - are there any saucy picks or captains I can use to get the jump on them?

Pras: Hi Sam. I wouldn't try to get clever with captaincy this week. I am quite bullish on Mo Salah's potential against Spurs. For going different consider taking some contrarian views and hope you are right (or lucky). This could include, for example, that Fulham concede, or popular picks like Jacob Murphy or Matheus Cunha blank. Remember it's not just about making it all up this week, 20 points is a small enough margin that you continue to play sensibly and let your opponent make a mistake.

  8. 'Save the Free Hit?'published at 16:23 British Summer Time 25 April

    FPL Q&A

    Pras
FPL veteran with eight top-25k finishes and co-host of The FPL Wire podcast

Onri: Pras, I have 10 players for this week and a FH. Save the FH for 36/37? Use it this week for potential upside? Play 10 or take a -4 if not FH?

Pras: Hi Onri. It depends on who those 10 are. If you think they cover some important bases from Newcastle, Liverpool, perhaps a couple from Wolves and Fulham then you are good to go. In that case, I'd say take the hit and save the free hit for GW36 or 37. If its 10 players but not great upside picks then I'd play the Free Hit now.

  9. 'Should I replace Munoz and Martinelli?'published at 16:22 British Summer Time 25 April

    FPL Q&A

    Pras
FPL veteran with eight top-25k finishes and co-host of The FPL Wire podcast

PK: I have Daniel Munoz and Gabriel Martinelli as blanks on my Draft FPL bench - should I be replacing these? At the moment I have no one on my bench who is starting, which is a slight concern given I have Fabian Schar in defence.

Pras: I think you can let go of Martinelli. Not only does he not play this week, there will also be a lot of rotation around the PSG tie. I'd keep hold of Munoz and hope Schar is ok to start.

  10. Moyes confirms Tarkowski operationpublished at 16:21 British Summer Time 25 April

Chelsea v Everton (Sat, 12:30 BST)

    Everton

Everton boss David Moyes on James Tarkowski: "He’s out, he’s going to be out for the rest of the season. He is going to have an operation on his hamstring. It’s a big blow to us because Tarky plays such a huge part of what we've done and how we've done so well in this period."

He added that it could eat into the beginning of pre-season.

Moyes also confirmed that Dominic Calvert-Lewin is close to returning to first team training.

  11. Bournemouth's Cook out injuredpublished at 16:20 British Summer Time 25 April

Bournemouth v Manchester United (Sun, 14:00 BST)

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola confirmed Lewis Cook won't be available against Manchester United because of an injury.

"Lewis Cook has been struggling with an ankle issue which is a kind of tendonitis, more chronic than something acute," Iraola said.

"He is the only player not at 100% strength from our available players."

  12. Son not available against Liverpoolpublished at 16:18 British Summer Time 25 April

Liverpool v Tottenham (Sun, 16:30 BST)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Son Heung-Min of Tottenham Hotspur reactsImage source, Getty Images

Son Heung-min won't be on the pitch as Tottenham face a Liverpool side, who are just one point away from securing the Premier League title.

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou said of the club captain: "We don't really have injury problems, only one.

"Sonny [Son Heung-min] is the one that is trying to work his way back. He's improving which is good for us, but not for Sunday."

  14. 'Any advice for Assistant Manager to cover this week and next?'published at 16:14 British Summer Time 25 April

    FPL Q&A

    Pras
FPL veteran with eight top-25k finishes and co-host of The FPL Wire podcast

Brentford's manager Thomas Frank applaudsImage source, Getty Images

Neil, Melton Mowbray: Any advice for assistant manager to cover this week and next? I already have three Newcastle players in my squad, so can’t have Eddie Howe. Do I go for Arne Slot or risk it with Ruben Amorim (Bournemouth away and Brentford away this week and next)?

Pras: Howe would have been the obvious choice. If you are chasing then the best table bonus fixture would be Thomas Frank against Nottingham Forest - who will have just played Man City in the FA Cup semi-final. The alternative would be Arne Slot for the title winning game. I certainly wouldn't advise picking Amorim. Man Utd will have all their focus on the Europa League semi-final game and I don't fancy their chances in either of the Bournemouth or Brentford games.

  15. 'I've got my Wildcard left. Who should I be targeting?'published at 16:12 British Summer Time 25 April

Sam, panicking in Ramsey, Isle of Man: I'm in the last 32 of the Isle of Man Cup (last hope for silverware this season) and I need a big week. I've got my wildcard left and Omar Marmoush, EberechiEze, Jean-PhilippeMateta, Josko Gvardiol, and Daniel Munoz not playing. Who should I be targeting?

Pras: Hello Sam for the Isle of Man! You are in a good spot - just need to get through this week. Have a look at other free hit teams and if you are covering the big bases - lets say the best 5-7 picks then you are good to go. If you are not, then consider a wildcard. Good luck!

  16. 'Salah or Isak for captain? Should I bring Cucurella in?'published at 16:10 British Summer Time 25 April

    FPL Q&A

    Pras
FPL veteran with eight top-25k finishes and co-host of The FPL Wire podcast

Christian: Would Pras suggest Mo Salah or Alexander Isak for captain this week? Also I have Marc Cucurella on the bench. Should I bring him in?

Pras: I wouldn't overthink the captaincy this week. Mo Salah delivered a 21-point haul against Tottenham Hotspur in the reverse fixture, a game that saw 9 goals total. Yes, the attacking returns have dried up of late, but the fact that the game at Anfield could very likely wrap up the premier league title, I am expecting a lot of goals again. Spurs will also have an eye on their Europa League semi-final a few days later. On Cucurella, I shared my views in my draft team below. Think he is a solid pick, but in no way a must-have.

  17. The view from Fantasy 606published at 16:08 British Summer Time 25 April

    Alistair Bruce-Ball
Commentator on BBC Radio 5 Live

The title race in the Fantasy 606 mini-league is wide open with Statman Dave having edged into a three -point lead after his score of 93 points in gameweek 33 – Jakub Kiwior, Marcus Rashford and Matheus Cunha were the real difference-makers for him and now all of us are putting the Free Hit chip into play in gameweek 34.

Like a lot of managers out there we are going to be targetting the same fixtures – Liverpool vs Tottenham, Newcastle vs Ipswich, Wolves vs Leicester – so it’s about how you can try and differentiate your team a little, particularly if you’re chasing.

Captaincy is one way of doing that – Statman Dave says it’s going to be Mo Salah for him on a potentially historic afternoon at Anfield but I quite fancy Alexander Isak with Newcastle striving for Champions League qualification.

It’s a pretty safe bet that Cole Palmer will start Chelsea’s home game against Everton but Statman Dave was adamant in the Fantasy 606 podcast that he should be avoided having failed to score in his last 16 games in all competitions. Chris Sutton would say he’s due!

Chris also had some dramatic news on the podcast this week. He’s stood down his loyal assistant manager Ollie to replace him with another one of his sons, Harry, who’s currently top of the Sutton family mini-league. Harry has a chance to audition for the job by seeing what he can do on the Free Hit this week.

The BBC Sport league has almost 55,000 managers in it and Max Littleproud has gone back to the top of the pile after a Bench Boost-enhanced score of 98 in gameweek 33 (team below).

He made five transfers at a cost of eight points and they all paid off bringing in Ibrahima Konate, Jakub Kiwior, Ruben Dias, Morgan Rogers and Jarrod Bowen who earned 47 points between them.

Max is currently ranked seventh in the world.

Roberto Hollis: Decisions left on Free Hit - Chris Wood, Raul Jimenez or Jorgen Strand Larsen, Bryan Mbeumo or Luis Diaz, Matz Sels, Nick Pope or Jose Sa. Thoughts, Pras?

Pras: Hi Roberto - Jimenez, Diaz and Pope is where I have landed for my own freehit side, so I can only recommend that to you. These are all good options though so go with your gut. In a single game, anything can happen.

Steve from Huddersfield: Danny Welbeck & Alex Iwobi or Raul Jimenez & Kaoru Mitoma?

Pras: Not much in it between these options, but I slightly prefer Mitoma and Raul. Don't forget you can also consider double ups eg. Iwobi and Raul could be great too.
